Garden windows project outside from the exterior wall of the home and are encased in glass on three sides and the top. Their design allows plants to be exposed to more light. Being hung on the outside of the wall creates a space outside the wall for the plants while still being temperature controlled from the inside. They are most commonly found in kitchens or bathrooms for example.
Krasiva® can provide and install vinyl garden windows in many custom sizes. They can be built at a minimum of 2 feet wide by 2 feet tall, and range all the way up to 6 feet wide by 5 feet tall. They are available in white and tan colored vinyl frames. The sides of your garden window can either be fixed glass panes or single hung venting windows to open for airflow during nice weather.
You can also add a shelf to place inside the garden window if you would like to have two horizonal surfaces to place smaller plants inside the window. You can always take the shelf out if you want your plants to be a little taller.
Being that these are a limited production specialty window, you should expect to pay considerably more for a garden window than you would for a fixed picture window.
Garden windows are always screwed in through the outside. For wood frame stucco homes, they must be installed with a nail fin. This means cutting back the stucco all the way around the window to set the nail fin of the garden window against the outside framing, then flashing the opening and rebuilding the stucco around the window. We refer to this type of installation as the new construction method, which you can learn more about here.

Modern garden windows made with double pane Low E glass are much more energy efficient than their predecessors, but they have much more glass surface area compared to a normal window. The glass is surrounded by the outside heat or cold on all sides and the top. This is not the most conducive environment for energy efficiency.
If energy efficiency is your main priority, a standard window installed flush against the wall will always be more efficient. However, if your main goal is to liven up your space with lots of light and living flora, then there is no better option than a garden window from Krasiva®.
